Walker & Company, a division of Bloomsbury USA, has a publishing list
that reflects varied personal tastes and publishing opportunities. History has
always been a cornerstone of our program. Dava Sobel's
Longitude and Galileo's Daughter, and, most recently,
Ross King's Judgment of Paris
were New York Times bestsellers, while Mark Kurlansky's
Cod and Salt, King's Michelangelo and the Pope's
Ceiling, Brunelleschi's Dome,
Laura M. Mac Donald's Curse of the Narrows, and Barnet Schecter's The
Devil's Own Work, among many others, have appeared in our
catalogs.
Walker's publisher, George Gibson, is drawn to science
writing as well. The prolific Isaac Asimov published more books with
Walker than with any other publisher, and we now enjoy the talents of
science writers whose skills bring the history of science and the
natural world alive-such as Diana Preston
(Before The Fallout),Mark Essig (Edison & The
Electric Chair)
, Simon Singh (Fermat's
Enigma), Chet Raymo (Walking
Zero and Climbing Brandon) and, most recently, Alan Hirshfeld (The
Electric Life of Michael Faraday.)
Walker Books for Young Readers has been a central part of the company
for some 40 years. Isaac Asimov was as skilled in writing for young
readers as for older ones-his dozens of titles can still be found in
libraries across the country-and over the years we have published many
luminaries of children's publishing, among them Barbara Cooney, Tomie de
Paola, Michael McCurdy, and Pat and Fred McKissack, whose Long Hard
Journey won the Coretta Scott King Award.
In February 2008, we will publish Valentine Surprise, a book
by Corinne Demas and illustrated by R. W Alley<./a>
We hope the books you will find on this site, or in our catalog, will
intrigue, challenge, surprise, or otherwise engage you. They are
available at independent, chain, and specialty bookstores across the
United States, as well as in a variety of ways on the Internet.
